How to get from the airport to Tbilisi
The road from the airport to the center of the capital leads along the J. Bush Highway, better known to everyone as the Kakheti Highway. There is a branch of the Bank of Georgia in the arrival hall. It is easily recognized by its bright orange design. Here you can change currency to pay for transportation to the city. Change only the amount you need — the minimum. As in all airports around the world, the exchange rate here is worse than in the city.
Railroad
The railroad connects the airport with the central station of Tbilisi Railway Station. The Airport station is 70 meters away from the passenger terminal. Only the airport parking lot separates them. The station is beautiful and modern: it looks like a hemisphere of golden glass.
The train can accommodate up to 100 passengers and will take you there in 30—35 minutes. The disadvantage of this method of transportation is that the train runs only twice a day in each direction — in the morning and in the evening:
- Tbilisi — Airport: 07:50 and 16:55;
- Airport — Tbilisi: 08:35 and 17:20;
- A ticket costs 0.50 lari (just under 0.20 €).
Tickets can be purchased online and at the ticket office of the railway station.
Bus
Municipal bus #37 makes regular trips between Tbilisi and Tbilisi Airport. It stops at the very entrance to the passenger terminal of the airport.
Bus #37 runs to Tbilisi Railway Station and the route includes the main central districts: Isani and Avlabar, Freedom Square, Sh. Rustaveli Avenue, Heroes' Square in Saburtalo district and Station Square. Stops are at all stations of municipal transportation. There the scoreboard also shows the arrival time of the route.
- A ticket on bus #37 is 0,50 GEL (just under 0,20 €);
- It runs around the clock, every 20—30 minutes. At night, the interval between flights can be slightly longer — about 35—40 minutes. A signboard operates at each stop.
Cab
There are cab services at the airport that operate around the clock. They can be recognized by the white color of the car. Green checkers on the roof mean that the cab is free. The journey to the center of Tbilisi takes about 25—30 minutes (if there are no traffic jams), the approximate cost is 25—30 GEL.
Alternatives — any online cab service: Yandex, Maxim, Bolt. And if you plan to travel around Georgia by car, you can rent it right at the airport from 25 $ per day from international rental companies: MyRentacar and DiscoverCars.
Car rental service is available directly at the airport itself — at the parking lot itself and at the Airport Railway station. Here you can choose a suitable car in person, but it can be more expensive without a reservation.
About Tbilisi Airport
The airport is well organized, so there are almost no delays with transfers. The check-in and baggage claim procedure is almost queue-free, and in case of a large number of passengers, additional counters are opened. Even if you arrive before the flight, you will have something to occupy you for an extra couple of hours: there are ATMs, stores and cafes in the terminal building, and WI-FI is free.
On the territory of the terminal there is an area for VIP-customers service — Primeclass lounge services (cost about 50 €).
Airport parking lot
The three parking lots of Tbilisi International Airport have a capacity of 1000 parking spaces. There are several entrances to the parking lots, where it is obligatory to take a registration ticket. Payment for parking is made at check-out. The tariff is hourly or daily, from 4 to 15 GEL.
You can stay in the parking lot for 5 minutes free of charge. If you lose your parking registration card, you will have to pay a fine — the cost of 3 days of parking.
