How to get from the airport to Tbilisi and Batumi

There are several options to get from the airport to a particular city: there are special buses adapted for each specific flight, private or shuttle buses.

Georgian Bus

Georgianbus buses from Kutaisi airport take you to and from Tbilisi or Batumi, as well as to the high mountainous regions of Mestia, Gudauri, Stepantsminda, Kazbegi.

Buses have a clear schedule for the main destinations — it is linked to the departure and arrival times of flights. Tickets can be purchased directly on the company’s website or at airport ticket offices.

Sometimes the price depends on the time of the flight.

  • A ticket from the airport to Tbilisi is GEL 20—25, a round-trip ticket is GEL 36—40.
  • One way ticket to Batumi is 15 GEL.

Omnibus Express buses

Another bus company that serves Kutaisi airport is OmnibusExpress. The transportation schedule of this company to and from the airport is also coordinated with the flight schedule of Kutaisi airport. The buses leave Tbilisi 7 hours before departure, and from Batumi — 5 hours before departure, so that passengers have time to check-in. Buses stop right at the exit from the terminal. Tickets are sold at airport ticket offices or online on the website of the bus company.

Ticket price:

  • Tbilisi — Airport fare costs 20 GEL one way or 35 GEL round trip for adults. For children — 10 and 17.5 GEL.
  • Batumi — Airport one way ticket: 15 GEL for adults, 5 GEL for children.
  • Kutaisi — Airport one way: 5 GEL for adults, 3 GEL for children.

If your plans change unexpectedly, you can cancel your tickets. Their cost will be refunded depending on the time of surrender: 100% if there are at least 24 hours before departure, 50% for 12 hours and 25% of the price for 6 hours.

Cab from Kutaisi airport

There is a cab stand right at the exit of the passenger terminal of Kutaisi Airport. They are not tied to the airport services, so you will have to deal with private taxi drivers. The tariff to Batumi is about 40 $, to Tbilisi — 60—70 $. This price is 20% higher than usual, but you can bargain. It will be even cheaper if you have one or two traveling companions — the fare can be divided between the passengers.

You can call a Maxim or Kiwitaxi cab in advance — a trip to the center of Kutaisi will cost 20 €. A HolidayTaxis or GetTransfer transfer to Tbilisi costs from 100 €.

Marshrutka

Locals do not use either shuttles or transfers — they know the cheapest way to get from Kutaisi airport to any point in the country. To do this, you need to leave the airport, walk about 30 meters to the highway and wait for a passing minibus. Usually these are Batumi-Tbilisi intercity flights, comfortable sprinters, their drivers stop by the airport on the way and pick up passengers.

The «sprinters» pass by every 15—20 minutes, with the destination indicated on the windshield. The name is often in Georgian, in which case you have to wave for the bus to stop and ask the driver. After the opening of the bypass highway, the number of shuttle buses has decreased, and sometimes you have to wait for them for about an hour.

  • You can get to Tbilisi by minibus for 10—15 GEL, to Kutaisi — for 5 GEL.
  • To leave for Batumi, you have to cross to the opposite side of the road and a marshrutka will cost 15 GEL.

The disadvantage of this method is that there is no specific schedule and it is impossible to accurately plan the time of arrival at the final destination.
