Tenerife South Airport: How to get there

Tenerife: how to get from South Airport to the resorts and back

Tenerife has two airports: North and South. Airplanes of the Russian airlines Aeroflot or S7 arrive at the largest air hub of the Canary Islands — the Southern Airport. International flights of more than 50 airlines land here.

By the end of the 80s of the last century it became clear that the only North Airport on the island could not cope with the number of air travelers. Then a new South Airport(Aeropuerto de Tenerife Sur, international code TFS) was built. It consists of one three-level terminal, and plans to build a second terminal by 2026.

You can leave from South Airport byTitsa buses, cab or rented car.

Shuttle-bus from South Airport.

The airport does not have its own shuttle service, but private shuttle companies do. A group transfer is a shuttle bus transportation from the airport directly to the desired city, without frequent stops like municipal buses. Shuttle buses may pass through several cities, but they are more comfortable, go faster, and have room for luggage inside.

Group transfer prices from South Airport for a single passenger:

  • From 30 € to Puerto de la Cruz.
  • From 36 € to Santa Cruz de Tenerife.

Buses from Tenerife South Airport

Public transportation on the island is by Titsa buses only. Look for the bus stop immediately upon exiting the arrivals area on the ground floor.

Tourist bus passes are available at the airport: 10 € for a day or 50 € for a week. At Titsa terminals you can buy a refillable Ten + transportation card, which is cheaper. If you don’t plan to use public transportation in Tenerife often, you can buy a one-time ticket from the bus driver and pay for it in cash or with a bank card. The fare depends on the distance to your destination.

To reach any resort in the southeast of the island from South Airport, you can take route No. 111 and its night version, No. 711. The journey to the capital takes 50 minutes, with a half-hour interval.

9,35 €
This is the price of a one-way ticket to the capital. With the Ten+ card, the ticket price is €6.95.

If you plan to rest on the southern coast, then route #415 is relevant for you. It runs every hour and takes 45 minutes. End stations: El Fraile and South Airport.

A fare to El Fraile costs €2.85 one way or €2.5 with the Ten+ card.

Flight #343 runs between the North and South airports. It is one of the longest routes on the island — the bus passes about two thirds of Tenerife in 1 hour and 45 minutes. There are no intermediate stops between airports and the journey takes 45—50 minutes. The final stops are Puerto de la Cruz and the station in the southern resort of Costa Adeje (Estacion Costa Adeje).

  • Mode of operation: weekdays from 6:20 to 23:00, weekends and holidays until 18:00.
  • Fare to Puerto de la Cruz: €13.55 one way if paying on the bus or €9.55 with the Ten+ card.
  • Travel between North and South Airport: 9,7 € single ticket, 7,15 € with Ten+ card.

Cab from Tenerife South Airport

Cabs are more expensive than buses, but more convenient, especially if you arrive on a night flight, with your family or company. I recommend using the services of an official cab — it works according to approved uniform rates. The fare depends on the kilometer, fare and additional services. For example, when traveling from the airport, you will have to pay for entering its territory.

In the Canary Islands, as in all of Spain, there are two tariffs: «low» (weekdays from 6:00 to 22:00) and «high» (at night from 22:00 to 6:00, weekends and holidays). The overpayment for the «high» fare is approximately 10 -12%.

In order to leave South Airport, it is not necessary to call a car in advance. Cabs can easily be found in the special parking lot located near the zero floor exit. Licensed cabs on the island are marked with a green light on the roof or window and a small sign reading «SP» on the rear bumper.

  • Approximate cost of a cab from the South Airport: to the capital — 100 €, to Puerto de la Cruz — 125 €, to the resorts of the southern coast — from 37 €.

Instead of an official cab, I recommend you to consider an individual transfer via Kiwitaxi — it is often 20—40% cheaper. For example, to Santa Cruz de Tenerife a car for 2—3 people with luggage costs from 60 €, and in Puerto de la Cruz — from 75 €.
