Girona is the second most important city in Catalonia, so getting there from the regional capital is not difficult — public transportation runs frequently and schedules are convenient. Take a bus or train, or if you have a driver’s license, rent a car.
Train from Barcelona to Girona
The train is the fastest and most convenient way to get from Barcelona to Girona on your own. The national company Rodalies de Catalunya and high-speed trains of the Spanish carrier Renfe run between the cities.
Rodalies de Catalunya trains
From Barcelona to Girona, you can take Regional trains (Regional) and Media Distancia trains (Media Distancia). The latter are faster and have fewer stops along the way.
From the capital of Catalonia to Girona there are trains of line R11. Girona is not the final station on this route, so be careful not to miss your stop. Stations in the trains are announced and written on the electronic board in the car.
In Barcelona, you can catch the train at four stations: Sants, Passeig de Gràcia, El Clot-Aragó and Sant Andreu Comtal. In Girona, the train arrives at the train station.
The ticket for an electric train is sold on the carrier’s website, at stations — at ticket offices or terminals.

Bus from Barcelona to Girona
Catalan company Sagales buses run between the cities, with 6 trips a day on routes 602 and 603.
In Barcelona, the bus runs from Terminal 1 of the airport and stops at Barcelona North Station (Estació del Nord) in the city. Girona is not the final station of the route, so be careful not to miss your stop.
Tickets can be purchased in advance on the carrier’s website, and on the day of departure — at the ticket office of the bus station or from the driver.

By car from Barcelona to Girona
